30 Years Of Sláine:”Book of Scars”-Simon Bisley
One of the most popular art droids to have plied his talents on the Galaxy’s Greatest Comic™,in a large part due to his unforgettable work for Sláine:The Horned God,Simon Bisley is one of 2000AD's greatest success stories.
The Bisley droid had made his mark a year previously, with a magnificent debut on A.B.C Warriors:The Black Hole, also with script droid Pat Mills.
However his sharp b/w linework on this title, which suitably fitted the claustrophobic underground tunnels setting of the strip, was eclipsed by the wide expanse and rich environment of Sláine's world of fantasy and legend.
Of course the outstanding feature of The Horned God series was that for the first time Sláine had gone full-colour,and Bisley's painting was like nothing the comic had ever seen before.
His style evoked that of the European sci-fi/fantasy comics aimed at a more mature readership, changing the direction of the Prog for the coming pre-millennial 1990’s.
So it’s with tremendous excitement that we can reveal the Bisley droid’s brand new artwork for the current 30th Anniversary Sláine series,”Book of Scars",his first strip work for 2000AD since the final Horned God Book III(Progs688-98,21Jul-29Sep’90).
